The city of Coimbatore is located on the banks of
Noyyal River. It is surrounded by Western Ghats and thus, it has a
pleasant climate throughout the year and exotic fauna and flora. It is a
fast developing hub and the textile centre of Tamil Nadu. Apart from
mills and dyeing industries, there are a lot of natural attractions and
tourism magnets in this city.
This city dates back to Sangam era (prior to 2 AD). It was
one of the most bubbling trade centres in the ancient time period. It
is said that the earliest known clan to settle here is Kovans. Later,
clusters of villages were combined and ruled by various dynasties.
Still this city is called as Kovai. It is a through-out-the-year
vacation spot and is about 411 meters above the sea level. There are a
lot of festivals that are celebrated in a grand manner here. People usually cross Coimbatore to reach Ooty. Due to its vicinity to Ooty, it appears a little similar to a hill station.
This city holds a lot of natural spots, architectural marvels,
small hillocks with various attractions, commercial outlets and
wildlife. There are a lot of attractions that are very near to Coimbatore,
apart from Ooty. Coimbatore is also called as poor man’s Ooty due to
its mild climate. It is a multi-cultural city with variant food
cuisine.
